HBHS Water Polo team win Silver at New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships

During the April school holidays, the HBHSl Premier Water Polo team competed in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Premier Water Polo Championships in Auckland.  The team went through pool play undefeated with wins over Mt Albert Grammar (21-6), Western Springs (15-6) and Rangitoto College (14-9). They then beat Auckland Grammar in their quarter-final (11-9) setting up a rematch with Rangitoto in the semi-final.  This was an incredibly tense affair with HBHS coming back after being down 10-7 at the beginning of the last quarter to win 11-10.  They then played Sacred Heart college in the final where despite a gutsy effort, they went down 11-9, finishing the tournament as the second best team in the country - the first premier division medal the school has won in this sport.

A special mention to Matt Lander (Year 11) who was voted Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, and many thanks to Mr Teokotai-White, Mark Harvey and Kim Lander for their organisation and support of the team throughout the year.
