HBHS Waikato School Leaver Scholarships
Matthew MacFarlane won a 2011 University of Waikato Plus One School Leaver Scholarship in 2010. This prize recognizes academic excellence in students who are not eligible to receive a School Leaver Scholarship as they have completed the International Baccalaureate or equivalent examinations, or have had a gap year before enrolling.
Simran Singh won a Science Admission Full Fees Scholarship, and Jonathan Lane was awarded a Bachelor of Engineering Full Fees Scholarship for their academic results in the previous year.
The 2011 University of Waikato School Leaver Scholarships recognise achievement in the National Certificate of Educational Achievement. The $3,000.00 Scholarships are awaredd to students who achieved well in NCEA in 2010. The 2011 recipients of the Scholarship from HBHS are:

In 2012, the University of Waikato is introducing changes to the school leaver scholarships. These are outlined below:
The Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence School Leaver Scholarship: $5,000 towards fees or accommodation, awarded to students in their first year of study who gain NCEA Level 3 Certificat with an Excellence endorsement (or equivalent in CIE), University Entrance and meet the criteria for entry to their programme and in their first year are enrolled in a full time programme.
The University of Waikato Academic Merit School Leaver Scholarship: $3,000 towards fees or accommodation, awarded to students in their first year of study who gain NCEA Level 3 Certificate with a Merit endorsement (or equivalent in CIE), University Enrance and meet the criteria for entry to their programme and in their first year are enrolled in a full time programme.
