HBHS Touch Rugby back on top
After three intense days in the sun at the National Secondary Schools Touch Tournament, held at the University of Waikato from Friday 7 December through to Sunday 9 December, Hamilton Boys’ High School Senior Touch team proved victorious, in what was a relatively one-sided final against Palmerston North Boys’ High School. The final score of 9 – 5 was indicative of HBHS’s dominance in the boys’ competition once the team had made it through some tricky pool play matches, which included a loss to last year’s champions Rototura Boys’ High School in the early stages of the tournament. Tournament MVP Mikaere Beattie rated scoring a try in the final as one of his tournament highlights, to go alongside his selection in the National Tournament Team. He will be accompanied by four other HBHS students, Shanan Tomuri, Te Maire Martin, Legin Hotham and Isaac Te Tamaki. Team Manager Mr Greg Kirkham would like to thank the team’s parents and families for their invaluable support during the tournament, and would also like to thank Te Wananga O Aotearoa Glenview Campus for providing accommodation for the team. This win now means that HBHS has won five times out of seven consecutive appearances in the national competition finals.
