HBHS Top Wrestling School in New Zealand
For the first time in its history, HBHS can lay claim to being the best school in New Zealand in the sport of wrestling, after a very successful weekend at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Wrestling Championships, held at Hawera. Teacher in charge of wrestling, Mr Dan Bair, took a small team down to the competition, where the boys competed with a maturity and discipline that was remarked upon. Hone Karaka and Torryn Lanauze-Phillips won bronze medals, Keilen Hunt and Raukawa Neems silvers, and Hone Karaka, Curtis Roundtree, Caleb Wallbank, Jordan Marshall, Treymaine Butler, Teo Pouri-Lane and Matiu Pouri-Lane all won gold medals in their respective divisions. The competition was so tight that HBHS took out the all-round title by 1 point, meaning that, as so often is the case with HBHS teams, every boy contributed, and every contribution counted. Congratulations to the team on this outstanding achievement, and thanks to Mr Dan Bair and all of the supporters for their efforts.
