HBHS Supports YWCA
Hamilton Boys’ High School’s Argyle House residential hostel’s kitchen is the temporary home for staff and volunteer drivers from the YWCA’s Mobile Meals “meals on wheels” service. Argyle House usually caters for 130 student boarders.
YWCA Manager Anne Bennett noted "Our Mobile Meals staff are finding the facilities excellent and are very appreciative of all HBHS' support. The staff comment on how polite the boysare at Argyle House. Two of the builders working on this YWCA site are exArgyle House students, so we're getting some of that good grounding here too!"
The YWCA’s own kitchen is unusable until late August, while the roof is being replaced. The adjoining Category II Historic Places Trust listed 1926 former Episcopal Chapel, also known as Te Whare Wahine is being seismically strengthened and reroofed. Thanks to Argyle House’s support, the YWCA is able to continue to prepare and deliver 600 “meals on wheels” each week to homes throughout Hamilton.
YWCA Mobile Meals Co-ordinator Paula Johnson says “We thank Joan Fagan (Argyle House Kitchen Manager) and all her staff for being so accommodating and allowing us to continue our service. We also appreciate our volunteer drivers adapting to the new Hamilton East location.”
