HBHS Site Developments

Members of the public may be curious about the extensive fencing being raised around the south side of the school. On Monday 29 November trenching equipment will be brought onto the back fields of HBHS to establish proper drainage for this part of the campus. Anyone who has spent time on our fields in winter is aware that Hamilton’s clay soil is far from porous.

The trenches will be inserted every five metres, pipes will be laid and shingled over, and then the area will be re-grassed. The overflow will go into a header pipe which links to the storm water system. We are hopeful that this will improve the playing surfaces by at least eighty percent during winter.

This is part of a programme that will eventually incorporate all of the playing fields. It will take five years to complete. We anticipate that this will increase the ‘usability’ and health of HBHS’ grounds for a long time to come.

The Swimming Pool

The school swimming pool is back in action after a significant ‘upgrade’ investment by the Board of Trustees. The water quality can be maintained at an extremely high level because of the recently fitted new filters and pumps. (Mr Richard Dodunski is pictured in the pump room, right) The students are delighted to have access to this important resource again, as you can see from the images of today’s Dive Training sessions.
