HBHS Results from Clay Target Shooting National Championships

During the October holiday break, the HBHS Clay Target Shooting team traveled to Christchurch to compete in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships.  They began very strongly with a win in the South Island Point Score Trophy which was one better than their result in the North Island event.  David Pearson (pictured) went on to place second in the Individual Point Score event, and Brayden Porteous and Jeremy Schinkel finished 5th and 7th respectively.  Seven of the traveling squad made final shoot-offs in the South Island Events.  After this promising start things started to go downhill, beginning with the weather and freezing conditions made competing in the New Zealand Championships which followed, very difficult.  The team continued to shoot well, but were off the pace, with only David Pearson being selected to shoot for the Fish and Game Waikato Regional Team in the competition held the following day.  The Waikato Team finished 1st in very trying conditions, and David collected the medal for 2nd individual boy which was a great result for him.  The competitions were an excellent opportunity for the HBHS team to gain valuable competition experience at such a high level, which will stand them in good stead for next year.
