HBHS Regional Water Polo Champs

On Monday the 23rd of May, the Hamilton Boys’ High School Senior A Waterpolo Team played in the Waikato Secondary Schools Waterpolo Final against St. Johns College. The team came out firing in the first quarter with a goal to Rahiti Teokotai-White in the opening 30 seconds, with a second to Sam Franicevic one minute later. St. Johns slowly took control of the match, shooting out to a 6-2 halftime lead. However, the team kept composed and came up with a quick comeback to bring the game back to 6-6 by the end of the 3rd quarter, with goals coming from Callum Maxwell (3) and Maison Carstensen.

The final quarter was an intense affair. After St. Johns went a goal up early in the quarter, Sam Franicevic scored once more to square the game up at 7-7. In the last minute of the game, Maison Carstensen earned a penalty which was then converted by Rahiti Teokotai-White. HBHS went on to close out the game winning 8-7, with some key defensive interceptions coming from Peter Jury and Drew Divehall.  Rahiti Teokotai-White was also named MVP of the tournament.
