HBHS Physics students win Bronze Medal at International Junior Young Physicists Tournament

Recently a team of four Year 11 students, Eric Coufmann (Captain), Rohan Thomas, Cameron Gillespie and James Day traveled to Wellington to compete in the International Junior Young Physicists Tournament.  This competition is open to all schools from New Zealand, as well as Australia, Singapore and Korea.  During the four day competition students presented their findings of five extended practical investigation challenges they have spent months working on.  Teams are given 10 minutes to present these findings before defending them against an opposing team.  Our students started impressively, finishing the opening round in first place, with judges remarking that it was the most impressive first round effort they have ever seen.  Against some very talented opposition, our students did very well to finish with a bronze medal.  Congratulations to our team on this excellent effort, and thanks and congratulations to Physics teacher Mr Steve Chrystall on his efforts working with the team.
