HBHS Named as a New Zealand School of Character
At yesterday's final Middle School Assembly for the year, our Headmaster, Mrs Hassall, was presented with the latest New Zealand title HBHS has won, and it is one that every single member of the school can share. HBHS, along with four other schools, was named as a New Zealand School of Character as part of the international "Character Counts" week which is currently being celebrated in 88 countries by 10 million students. The applicant schools are judged on a range of criteria including student behaviour, citizenship, school culture and academic achievement. The National School of Character recognises schools which have developed responsible, respectful school cultures at a significant level. In receiving this award, alongside Otago Girls' High School, Malfroy Primary School, Hato Paora College and Rathkeale College, HBHS has been acknowledged by the New Zealand Foundation of Character as being one of the premier schools in the country at producing young people who embody these core values. Therefore the congratulations for this achievement can be shared by every single one of us. The award was presented by Mr Shane Singh, who had been instrumental in nominating and entering HBHS, and we thank him for his efforts on our behalf.
