HBHS Individual Stars make their mark on the International Sporting Stage
Today's senior school assembly was the ideal opportunity to celebrate some of our HBHS athletes who have been making their mark and winning titles at National and International level. In Rotorua this past weekend, Year 10 student Jaxon Waters won two gold medals in the international division in Individual Trampoline and Synchronised Trampoline at the New Zealand Championships. Boxing brothers Sean Smith (Year 13) and Jarrad Smith (Year 11) will compete in the Australian National Golden Gloves Competition in August, and prior to this, Jarrad will compete in the Ringside World Champion Boxing Competition in the United States. Year 10 student James Scott will head off to Europe in May to compete for four months in the FIM Motocross World Championships as the New Zealand Junior Class Champion, and Bradley Parrott (Year 13) was recently named in the New Zealand Junior Shooting Squad after winning the North Island Open Championship in Junior Triples and Junior Single Barrels. Zane Neill (Year 10) and Daniel Sinkinson (Year 11, pictured right) recently represented New Zealand as members of the Under 16 Junior Polocrosse team which won all four tests played against a New South Wales side. Finally, Year 9 student Jack Read won six National titles in the New Zealand Flat Water Canoe Sprint Championships in the Under 14 age group, taking out the K1 200m, the K1 500m, and the K1 5km event, as well as team titles in the K2 500m, the K4 500m and the K4 200m. Congratulations once again to each and every one of these boys on their genuinely outstanding efforts. We are very proud of our New Zealand representatives and champions and look forward to following these talented athletes as they continue to compete around the world. Kia kaha.
