HBHS Golf Team win Waikato Intercollegiate Golf Tournament
The biggest day in Waikato School golf came around on Monday 15th of May with one place up for grabs to represent the district in the secondary schools final held in September. We are in a very strong district and have to compete against strong teams from St Peter's Cambridge, St John's College and Matamata College. Having girls in your team is an advantage as they play off the ladies' tees and get 2 shots off their score at the end. In addition, St Peter's Cambridge have one of the best girl golfers in the country and she didn't disappoint, shooting a 72 which got converted to a 70 which was good enough to win the individual gross by one shot from HBHS Captain of Golf James Fellows-Ford (Year 13) who shot 71(-1) off the stick. The competition is based on the best 3 scores in your team of 4, and James was supported well by Luke Kidd (Year 11) who shot 72 (even par) and the current HBHS number one Tyler Wood (Year 13) who shot 76 (+4) meaning a team total of 219. This was 5 shots better than St Peter's Cambridge so the team now faces the challenge of improving on last year's second placing at Nationals. This was such a rewarding day as four of our top five golfers are in Year 13 and this was their last chance to qualify. It has been a pleasure to work with these boys over the past five years and we will be working very hard to get that elusive National title.
