HBHS Cycling Team win big at North Island Secondary Schools Championships
In the first weekend of the July school holidays, the HBHS Cycling team took up residence on the NISS medal podium, bringing home 19 in total. Kiaan Watts, Timmy Ng, Burnie McGrath and Noah Coster won gold in the Under 15 Boys Road Race, and the Hayden McCormick Trophy. In the Under 15 Road Race, Lachlan Robertson won gold, and Kiaan won the silver medal. Kiaan also won gold in the Under 15 Criterion race, and Timmy picked up a silver medal in the Under 16 Road Race. The medals kept coming on Monday, with Kiaan, Timmy and Lachlan winning silver in the Under 17 Sprint and, with the addition of Burnie, the same team won another silver medal in the Under 17 Pursuit. Kiaan picked up yet another silver medal in the Under 15 Derby, with Lachlan collecting a bronze in the same event. Kiaan and Lachlan repeated this performance in the Under 15 Scratch race. In the Under 16 Points race, Burnie won silver and Timmy a bronze, and Kiaan was back on the top of the podium in the Under 15 Points race winning gold with Lachlan picking up a silver. Jared Gray won a bronze medal in the Under 19 Scratch race, and Kiaan another gold in the Under 15 Elimination event, with Lachlan finishing behind him with a bronze medal. Burnie rounded the event off with a bronze in the Under 16 Scratch race. Overall, the team were the third best boys school, an impressive achievement, considering that the HBHS team had fewer riders than many of the other schools. Congratulations to all of these boys on these excellent results, and thanks and congratulations to Mr Graham Hardaker for all of his work in support of HBHS Cycling.
