HBHS Cross Country Runners Excel
Jacob Priddey (Year 10) competed in the New Zealand U17 Club Road Race Championships in Wellington on Saturday and placed 1st.
On Monday a group of our top cross country athletes competed for Waikato in the North Island cross country relay championships. Each North Island province provides two teams with each team member running a 3km course.
Tom McLaughlin (Year 12) was part of the 4 man Senior A team that placed first. Tom performed superbly as third runner to move his team into first place, allowing the final runner to maintain a hard-won 150m advantage.
In the WBOP Intermediate Boys grade we were well represented with Jacob Priddey, Drikus Conradie (Year 11) and Finn Maunsell (Year 10). The Intermediate A Team won in spectacular fashion, finishing ahead of most of the senior teams. Their strongest competiton came from the WBOP 2nd team which Theunis Pieters (Year 11) was a part of. This team finished second, again ahead of several senior teams. Unfortunately, one of their team members had to withdraw on the day due to injury so Jacob Priddey ran as the 4th runner for their team to enable them to compete ( having already completed the first 3km lap for the 1st team). Unfortunately this meant that they became ineligible for a medal.
In the WBOP Junior A Team Blair Pennell (Year 9) won a gold medal. Our thanks go to the staff and parents who supported these athletes. Well done boys!
