HBHS Chess Teams win at Waikato Secondary Schools Competition
This past weekend HBHS entered two teams in the Waikato Interschools Chess Tournament. After 5 eventful rounds, our A Team, consisting of Eushin Kang, Shilong Yang (Captain), Sean Clark and Jacky Jin ended up winning the tournament with 9 match points. Our B team consisting of Joel Crombie, Karan Singh (Captain), Cooper Quinn and Ben Wright finished just behind them on 8 points, beating two other schools’ A teams on the way. Eushin Kang and Sean Clark played particularly well, being the only players in the event to end on 100%, hence for the first time in the tournament our A and B teams took the top two placings. HBHS have won the right to represent the Waikato in the New Zealand secondary schools championship later in the year.
