HBHS BMX Riders win New Zealand Titles
During the Easter break the BMX National Championships were held at the Sunset Coast BMX Events Centre near Pukekohe, and our HBHS riders managed to win four national age group titles, along with a second place. Our latest national title winners are Ryan Jordan (Year 11) in the Under 16 event, Cailen Calkin (Year 10) who won the Under 15 event, Austin Lupton (Year 9) in the Under 13 event, and Mason James (Year 10) who won the Under 14 event. Jack Lupton (Year 10) finished in second place behind Cailen in the Under 15 Boys event. Also competing at the event were Dylan Belle (Year 9), Clay Merito (Year 13), and Harris Thurgood (Year 13). Coaching three of these riders is Old Boy Cole McOnie who competed in the World BMX Championships in Belgium last year, along with Cailen, Ryan and Clay. This is clearly a sport where HBHS is building a very strong presence at National level, and we congratulate all of these boys on their excellent achievements. Thanks to Mr Joe Calkin for this report.
