HBHS 2nd XV Red team win Super 8 title

On Saturday the HBHS 2nd XV Red rugby team secured the Super 8 title once again with a very tight one point victory over the Hastings Boys' High School 2nd XV.  The HBHS side were 10 - 8 down with 10 minutes to go, and successfully converted a penalty out in front to get the 11 - 10 win.  Dogged defense in the final moments of the match got the team home, extending their winning streak to an extraordinary three years and counting.  The HBHS 1st XV have guaranteed themselves a home final with a relatively comfortable 21 - 9 win over their Hastings Boys' High School counterparts.  The 1st XV were 12 - 0 up but all of a sudden found themselves at 12 - 9 thanks to three quick Hastings penalties.  HBHS were able to pull away in the second half with some excellent goal-kicking of their own.  Finally a shout out to our 2nd XV Black team who were so close to making the Waikato Division 1 1st XV finals for the third year running.  The team were ahead of the St John's 1st XV for much of their match, but unfortunately went down 14 - 10.  Well done to all of our rugby teams as we start wrapping up the winter sports season.
