HBHS 1st XV win Rugby Super 8 title
The HBHS 1st XV has successfully defended their Super 8 title with a win over Rotorua Boys' High School today in wet and icy conditions on our Number 1 field. HBHS were completely dominant in the first half of the match thanks to a try by Hone Karaka and some fine kicking by Rameka Poihipi putting the home side 16 - 0 ahead. Rotorua threatened at the beginning of the second half with two converted tries by halfback Te Ra Whata, but HBHS was not going to be denied and pulled away to finish the match 33 - 14. Congratulations to the team on this excellent win in testing conditions and on a dominant unbeaten run in the Super 8 competition. HBHS's record in the 1st XV Super 8 competition really does speak for itself. The team has won the title for nine of the ten years that the competition has been running.
