HBHS 1st XV Rugby Sky Broadcasts
HBHS 1st XV beat Napier Boys’ High School 32 – 14 on the 24th of July. The game was broadcast on Sky’s Rugby channel as part of its season of school boy rugby. We would like to invite you to attend the second live-broadcast game from HBHS, this Saturday (kick-off, 12.15).
Coach Nigel Hotham explains the significance of these games:
The performance was good, but it highlighted a lot of areas that we need to get right before our game against Tauranga Boys’ High School on Saturday. We made some positional changes that in some ways were a bit risky, but it has given us a few options at the business end of the season.
The kick off for the next game is here (at HBHS, on the Number 1 Playing Field) at 12.15, and goes to air at 12.00. Tauranga have had an up-and-down season this year; they only lost to Rotorua Boys’ High School 13-10, and we worked particularly hard to beat that same team.
The game on Saturday is for the Moascar Cup, which is like the National school boy Ranfurly Shield, but it is also about the rivalry between the two schools. There is a trophy called ‘The Boot’, which was one of famous All Black Don Clarke’s boots, that was won from us last year by Tauranga. They were the only team to beat us last year, and we had held ‘The Boot’ for many years before that, so it brings a certain kind of tension to the competition.
