HBHS 1st XI Cricket Team win Gillette Regional Qualifying Tournament
Congratulations to the HBHS 1st XI Cricket team on beating local rivals St Paul's Collegiate 1st XI by 10 runs yesterday at Seddon Park in Hamilton. HBHS batted first and set a target of 208 runs, which, when St Paul's were at 169 for 9, looked like it was going to secure a comfortable win. However, the victory was not secured until the very last over, with St Paul's needing 12 runs. Fortunately, the HBHS side held their nerve and secured what 1st XI Coach Mr Chris Kuggeleijn described as a hard-fought win brought about by a lot of hard work by the players. The team have now won the right to travel to Christchurch in December to play in the National Gillette Cup Cricket Finals against the other best provincial high school teams in the country. In addition, Matti Clarke was named Most Valuable Player after scoring 64 runs. Jacob Gibson is pictured with the John Guy Trophy which is awarded to the winning team. Congratulations to the team once again on a superb win.
