First weekend of summer brings gold for HBHS Athletes and Teams

The first weekend of summer has proven to be a golden one for HBHS. Our Condor Sevens team became one of only two schools to win the National Sevens title three years in a row, defeating Scots College 21 – 10 in the final.  Earlier that afternoon HGHS secured the Hamilton double by beating Christchurch Girls’ High School 20 – 5.  The HBHS team wore black armbands to honour our Deputy Headmaster Mr Graham Robinson who passed away suddenly on November 18, and team captain Brad NcNaughten dedicated the win to Mr Robinson. 

Over in Hastings, our HBHS Athletics team spent the weekend notching up ten medals in what is one of our best hauls ever at this event.  Bronze medals were won by Trent Campbell, in the Junior Boys 400m, and Mattheus Pio in the Senior Boys 200m.  Charles Annals won silver in the Junior Boys Triple Jump and the Junior Boys Hurdles, and our Senior 3-man team of Connor Tristram, Sean Trowern and William Swales also won silver in the road race.  The Junior Boys 4 x 100 relay team of Charles Annals, Hamish Keenan, Trent Campbell and Flynn Finlay-Yates also won silver, and this bodes very well for our next few years.  Tyron Hilton won a silver in the Junior Boys 100m and backed up with a gold medal in the Junior Boys 200m, and Isaiah Priddey won double gold in the Senior Boys 3000m and 1500m.  Huge congratulations to all of these athletes on a spectacular weekend of winning.
