Elite Hockey Coaches Appointed
Hamilton Boys’ High School is proud to announce the appointment of Lloyd Stevenson (pictured, in orange)and Haydn Steel as Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the 1st XI Hockey team 2012.
Lloyd has represented the New Zealand Blacksticks between 2001 and 2009. In the time he accumulated 103 test caps. In his younger days he represented New Zealand in the under 18 and under 21 side which was part of the junior World cup in 2001. In addition he has represented North Harbour and been captain of the Midlands team. After retiring from the Blacksticks Lloyd joined Braxgata HC (Belguim) in 2010 and 2011.
On the 6th of December Llyod is off to compete in the inaugural World Series Hockey (WSH) to be played between 8 cities in India over 5 weeks (based on the same model as the IPL cricket) along with 136 Indian players and 40 Foreign players. He will be doing blogs about the tournament on his website www.alltimehockey.co.nz. Lloyd is looking forward to working with a bunch of motivated players at HBHS.
Haydn is no stranger to Hamilton Boys' High School, playing for the 1st X1 Hockey team in the early 1980s. He returned as Assistant Coach of the 2011 team who were runners up at Super 8 and 5th at Rankin Cup. Haydn has had a coaching career over the past ten years which includes leading the Waikato University Prem Men to Waikato, Midland Intercity and NZ Uni Games titles. He was Assistant Coach in 2004,05 to the Midlands Mens' National League team. From 2005 to 2009 he coached Waikato Dio 1st X1, winning the Marie Fry Secondary School 2nd division and gaining promotion to the 1st division Federation Cup. He has also coached the Waikato U13 Hatch team which finished 4th in 2007.
Together Lloyd and Haydn will make a formidable team which aims to be the first coaching pair at Hamilton Boys’ High School to lead the team to victory at the Rankin Cup, giving the team the title as the best school team in New Zealand.
