Double Podium Finish for HBHS Chess Team

It was a very successful weekend for HBHS Chess, with the first team winning the Waikato Secondary Schools Chess Competition, thus qualifying for the National Championships to be held over the September holidays.  The team of Christopher Symon, Daniel Ng, Sivaram Manoharan and Krishan Deo beat the St Paul's Collegiate first team with a 3 - 1 margin in the final, scoring a near-perfect 19 out of 20.  The HBHS second team of Lachlan Cate, Brandon Cuellar, Shilong Yang and Jacky Jin backed them up with a win over the St Paul's second team in order to take third place with a margin of 3 1/2 - 1/2 and a score of 11 out of 20.  Congratulations to all of these boys on their fine performances, and thanks and congratulations to Teacher in Charge of Chess, Mr Graham Nolan, for all of his hard work and support of HBHS Chess.
