Defence Forces Day

On Friday 18th June 18, 2012 the Defence Forces held a leadership day at Hamilton Boys’ High School. The objective was to provide information to students who display an interest in Defence careers, to enhance their leadership / team building ability, to improve self confidence and to gain an insight into military training.

Nineteen young men attended and were put through their paces by WO2 Henry Wichman (Army), and Sgt Nick Jones (Air Force).

“The enthusiasm and effort that was put in by all attendees was pleasing to see. Some of the thinking that went into the leadership activities, and involving all members of the team, right down to the huge effort during the PT session.

Well done to Hamilton Boys’ for showing us potential future leaders”

Sgt Nick Jones

“I thoroughly enjoyed the Defence Force Leadership day because I really want to further my career in the Air Force and this helped me learn about the necessary training, mentally and physically to achieve my goal.

While the day was challenging, it was also fun and helped me realize that I have leadership qualities and.  It helped me understand what leadership is and what it takes to be a good leader.

My favourite part of the day was when the officers took us through some of the basic training activities. Although this was hard, it helped me understand what I needed to work on to achieve my goal and also the mental feeling of completing the training was unexplainable. I won’t forget the day because it was awesome.”

My thanks to the Defence Forces.
