Day 7 from Japan
Day 7 from Japan
Up at 7.00 and although Fraser was quieter last night, Jacob Skeen sure made up for him with his snoring. Breakfast of ham, eggs, rice and cornflakes. Boys are very accomplished with chopsticks now and it has become their utensil of choice. Rehearsal of our lip-sync item at 8.00am. Tama thinks its coming along well but we’re all a little nervous about the team item function tonight. Opening ceremony at 10.30am at the stadium. Mean highland band performance from Mrs Redpath’s old school in Scotland. All the teams march through the stadium. Speeches from some important Japanese people in suits and a player’s oath read out by Adam Burn on behalf of all the players. We watch the 1st half of the French/Fukuoka game and are very impressed by last year’s champions. Back to begin our pre-match for today’s game vs Saga H.S. who are rated mid table of the Japanese teams. As a member of todays filthies, I help Mrs Clark with the gear and Tama with the warm-up. Fun, fun, fun and I make a mental note to try not to ever get into the filthies again.
The boys play an awesome game today and totally outplay our gutsy opponents. Tries went to Te Wehi Wright (2), Kane Jacobson, Kallum Andrews, Josh Fa’agalu, Isaako Peato, Fraser Armstrong and Jesse Dodunski was named Grassroots Trust player of the day after grabbing 4 tries and having a tremendous all round performance at fullback. Josh Smith added 5 conversions for a final score of 65-0. Coaches are much happier today. Back to dorms for medical check, ice and hot/colds. Last practice of our lip-sync and then off to dinner function with all teams. Each team has 3 minutes to perform their item and our show brings the house down. Back to meeting room for review of a very good day. Our team is bonding very well and we are all very focused on our on-field performance. To sleep at 9.30pm and look forward to a rest day tomorrow.
