Club Cycling Nationals
Sam Dobbs (Year 10) and Sam Gaze (Year 11) attended Club National Cycle Racing in early May. The competition was held in Wanganui, and involved both time trials and road racing. Sam Dobbs came third in the U15 time trial, and won the road race with a fierce final sprint. He has maintained his place as one of the fastest up-and-coming racers in the country.
Sam Gaze noted that the course was particularly difficult, and wore down even experienced cyclists. He supported his team mates (one of whom, Corby Price, won) during the U19 road race. Sam narrowly avoided a crash at 90ks an hour which hospitalized other competitors, and chalked his seventh place up to experience.
Both boys consider the Club Cycling Nationals to be the biggest event of their cycling calendar. Sam Gaze has used the competition as preparation to race for New Zealand in Camberra in July.
