Clay Target Shooting - National Champions

The NZ Secondary school Clay Target Shooting Champs were held from 26 – 29th September at the Waikato Clay Target Club. Schools from all over New Zealand competed, with over 330 competitors and 44 team entries. Hamilton Boys’ High School was represented by three teams.

On Saturday, a series of heavy rain showers made shooting clays challenging for the North Island Champs. All the HBHS teams performed well in the conditions. Sunday’s Nationals were shot in ideal conditions, with very strong competition in all events. The Boys’ High teams performed very well, with many personal bests, and eight perfect scores in individual events.

The A Team scored 290 / 300 in the team points score event and finished as NZSS National Teams Points Score Champions for 2009, ahead of Lindisfarne College and Napier Boys’ High School.

HBHS won this same national title in 2005 and it has taken four years to rebuild a completely new team. The success in 2009 is as a result of a lot of hard work and training throughout the year.
Andrew Muggeridge was the standout, shooting 89 / 90 for the day, and was picked to represent HBHS in the North Island Team.

Congratulations to HBHS Clay Target Shooting Team for their spectacular win during the October break.

Points Score 290/300

Team: Thomas Potter, Cameron Muggeridge, Andrew Muggeridge, Adam Hussey, Blair Housley
