The Trinity Guildhall music examination is an assessment designed to test an individual’s skill in playing an instrument or singing. It provides a range of grade achievements for all instruments and voice from the initial Grade 1 to 8. These examinations test not only the musician’s ability to perform and play music but also involve technical skills such as Aural, sight-reading and improvisation. It is entered by musicians from all over the world.
A total score of 60 to 75 is a pass, 75-87 is a merit and 87 and over is distinction. Christopher’s overall mark was 94 out of 100, which was unbeaten in this country, even though musicians of any age may enter. Christopher feels that his effort during the preparation for the exam was well awarded. He practices an hour everyday and his next goal is to get a high mark while attaining his performance certificate (which is an optional achievement award after Grade 8).
