BMX Racers win North Island Competition

Year 11 Jarrod Browning and Year 10 Joshua Jordan have both taken out impressive placings in the recently held North Island BMX competitions.  Browning initially struggled to assert his presence on the national scene - he crashed during the finals, and has come back from a debilitating arm injury.  His recovery appears to be complete, however, as he not only won the North Island competition, but beat Australia's fastest age-group racer in the process.

Browning's short term goal is to become the New Zealand Number 1 again; he will get a chance to compete for this title next Easter, in Rotorua.

Jordan's performance (third in the North Island) was achieved after months of training.  The courses require racers to 'sprint' for up to 50 seconds, with little regard for personal safety.  Both young men find the last strait the most challenging part of the race, as it requires reserves of fitness that rely on consistent training and discipline.

BMX is a sport that encourages longevity - both Browning and Jordan are aware of racers who are competiting well into their 70s.  Jordan aims for a top three finish at the National competition next year, while Browning's long term goal is a place on the New Zealand high performance squad by the end of next year.
