Alex Carr secures Ivy League Scholarship

Alex Carr, 2010 HBHS Captain of Sport received two Ivy League Scholarships to study in the most prestigious universities in America. He has accepted a place in Brown University, Rhode Island, and will begin study as a freshman in August.  Alex’s scholarship is worth approximately $300,000 NZD, and is guaranteed for four years.  Brown has a particularly strong neuroscience faculty, where Alex intends to study while he plays goalkeeper for the premier Brown soccer team.

Path to success

Alex compiled a pack in August of 2010 including his academic records, sporting achievements and footage of him playing soccer. He targeted 10 US universities with outstanding sporting and academic traditions, and then managed the recruitment process by himself during end-of-year examinations in New Zealand. Two offers in particular interested him – Columbia and Brown. Columbia University is sited on Manhattan Island in New York, and provides an intensive urban experience for its students. Brown has a traditional campus with grass football fields and an atmosphere closer to Alex’s home here in the Waikato.

We congratulate Alex on his stellar achievements, his personal initiative and his quiet dedication to excellence. We wish him good luck for his future studies, and look forward to seeing his football career blossom.
