A Touch of Culture

Wednesday's senior assembly was the perfect opportunity to name this year's Captains of Culture, as our best musicians, performers and speakers are about to head to Rotorua this weekend to compete in the annual Super 8 Cultural Festival.  We were also treated to some sublime musicianship, first from Year 9 cellist, and member of the New Zealand Youth Symphony Orchestra, Matthew Kim who was accompanied by Year 12 pianist Euan Safey.  They were followed by a band of senior students which has not yet settled on a name but who have already won through the first round of competition in the Smokefree RockQuest.  The band consists of Jacob Brown, Tetava Johnson, Paulo Galceran, Reid Benseman and Kees Anderson, who will also compete in the Super 8 Cultural Festival.  We wish all of our performers the best of luck this weekend and look forward to reporting on how well they did next week.  The Captains of our Cultural codes are:

Kapa Haka:  Tamihana Te Aho

Debating:  Nicholas Goodman

Music:  Jacob Brown

Pasifika:  Mascardo Mulipola

Drama:  Liam McGuire
