1st XV Super 8 Champions Again

After another bruising affair that went right to the last whistle, HBHS held out Hastings Boys' High School in Hawkes Bay to claim the 1st XV Super 8 rugby title on Saturday 12 August. A 12-12 draw was enough to send the shield back to Hamilton, as HBHS scored the first try of the match.

The game was tied nil all at half time, but with tries to Tane Te Aho and Tevita Fa'ukafa along with a conversion from Coby Milne, HBHS was able to hold on to take the victory and break the hearts of their fiercist rivals this season. Many had written HBHS off due to the outstanding record of their opponents over the past two seasons. But after losing a close match at home last week, the Waikato champs headed to Hastings confident they could steal a famous victory. It makes for a compelling end to the season, as these two teams may well meet again in the NZSS finals, providing there are no upsets in qualifiers.

There's no time to rest  though as HBHS' plays St John's at 4pm at home on Tuesday 15 August to decide the Waikato representative in the regional competition. A big thanks to sponsors The Porter Group, Lodge Real Estate, The Lawrenson Group and Heartland Bank for their continued support.
