'Four Reelz' 5th in National Competition
Over thirty schools fielded quartets for the 2010 Young Singers in Harmony Competition in Hamilton on Friday.'Four Reelz', featuring Takiri Southon, Joshua Fa'agalu, Taylor Glassie and Selu Fotu, represented HBHS with pride, and gained an extremely pleasing fifth place.
This is the first time that HBHS has entered a group in the competition, and the genre is still a relative novelty for the singers. None of the quartet had sung barber shop before term two of this year, but their considerable talent and stage presence appealed to both the judges and the audience. The boys selected barber shop standards 'Goodnight Ladies' and 'Coney Island Baby', and presented these in four-part a cappella harmony.
